Spotlight on Miriam Anderson

Hello Marshall Family! My name is Miriam Anderson, and I am returning to Marshall after a year teaching Kindergarten at Kinsey. Many of you know I have been a parapro in Ms. Eva's classroom and a substitute as well. It is so good to be back with familiar faces. For those of you who don't know me, I grew up in the small Arizona town of Parker and came to NAU to earn my teaching degree. I fell in love with the town and my husband Tim (PTO Treasurer) and stayed. We have 4 beautiful children. Two Marshall graduates, Iris in 5th grade at Marshall, and our 16-month-old baby girl. Life is so busy but when I do get a moment, I love reading, long walks, and movie nights with the family. I am so excited to return to Marshall as an RTI Reading Instructional Aide Monday-Thursday and plan to substitute on Fridays if needed. Right now, I am working remotely so you can say hi in an email manderson@fusd1.org or I will see you in the halls/classroom when we return to in person school. Go Mustangs!

Please help us all see what is happening behind the scenes!

~Thank you Ms. V! for helping me pull off a last minute spelling test when Nearpod decided not to cooperate with me. Team work baby. You are amazing. Thank you!! ~Ms. Shaw

~Thank you Marshall! Thank you for arranging for me to visit Marshall's virtual classrooms yesterday.  It was truly the highlight of my day!  You should be very proud of your teachers and staff for the many ways they are leveraging technology, and engaging and supporting students in their remote learning.  I enjoyed the opportunity to see students' smiling faces and look forward to an in-person visit to Marshall soon.
~Superintendent Penca

~Thank you Ms. Shaw and Ms. Shaw's class for this snapshot of all the love your class gave me after dancing it out to celebrate the completion of the 1st quarter. ~Mrs. Reasor

~Thank you Mrs. Bianco, Mrs. Joe, Ms. Hobson, Mrs. C, Mrs. Burgoon, Mrs. Stamer, Mrs. Fahy.
Mrs. Reasor,
I want to thank you for your devotion and extra hard work this quarter. Our family is new to Marshall (and Flagstaff), and changed school plans at the last minute. Logging on to multiple zooms a day has not been easy, but the friendly faces and patient voices of our teachers have made ALL the difference.
My younger son is in Mrs. Bianco’s class, and I can’t say enough about her.  She takes classroom management to a whole new level with her group of sweet, squirmy 5 year olds... and she does it every day with finesse, warmth, and somehow, a steady focus on learning, progressing, and *seeing* and meeting each kid’s needs (mine included). I’m beyond grateful for her devotion and flexibility.  She’s a dream.
My older son is a 3rd grader in Mrs. Joe’s class.  Mrs. Joe is doing so. many. things. with her students. I can imagine how fun it is to be in her classroom in-person. But what really stands out about her, is the way she connects and creates community with her students. Her students *know* her, and each other, in ways I wouldn’t expect online.  But she’s clearly the kind of teacher that prioritizes that..which is so smart, and so vital during this odd time.
We also look forward to drawing on Wednesdays with Mrs. Hobson (she’s amazing), and we’re so grateful for all the other skills our boys are learning in SEL, music, p.e. and more. THANK YOU.
Again, we’re new, and yet, my boys seem already a part of their Marshall family.  I’m admittedly scared, confused, and worn, like everyone... but switching to Marshall has been a source of consistency and positivity, and every day this quarter, proved to be the right decision for us.
Thanks for taking the time to read, and have a good weekend! ~Dunlevy Family

We have enough money to begin with up to 4 hours of collaboration time for our teachers to be paid just over $28/hr off of contract time to work on UDL lesson development.  Keep your focus narrow.  Tackle one part of the UDL design process at a time.  Please fill out THIS sheet to communicate with me your collaborative plan and don't forget to fill out a time sheet for that time period.

Technology Update

Are you receiving the Marshall emails and Connect-Ed phone calls from Blackboard Connect?  If you are not, let's get that taken care of!  Email Reasor and I will contact Lional Dodge.  Let's fix this!

Since elementary courses are set up as year-long courses (active from Aug. 17, 2020-Jun. 3, 2021) there is no action required for elementary courses in Canvas.  You do not need to modify any settings of your Canvas courses at this time. You can back up your course content into a "Sandbox" course.  Only takes a few minutes.

Happy October and Happy Disability Awareness Month!

From Eva Herberger

This month is about celebrating inclusivity and diversity in EVERYONE. This month is also Down Syndrome Awareness and AAC Awareness. AAC stands for Augmentative and alternative communication; most of my students have communication devices (we call them talkers) which they use to communicate for expressive and receptive language. We will be introducing our students with exceptional needs this whole month in morning announcements. Tori and I will have a few short videos for you to watch to support the education piece of having our students in your classroom. We want to be a support to you and answer all your questions you have. NAU has some awesome “FREE” events, so stay tuned for those! I will be starting an ASL (sign language) program that will be offered for Magnet Friday’s, but if any other grade levels want me to come teach or if any teachers are interested let me know! If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask us! #ChoosetoInclude
