Summer Happenings
What a summer it has been! I hope each of you continue to find time to relax, recharge, and reconnect with the things and people you love. As your proud principal, I am thrilled to share that this summer has been one of the most productive and inspiring yet—not just for Marshall Magnet Elementary, but across our entire Flagstaff Unified School District. While many student and teachers were away, our schools were buzzing with purpose, progress, and possibility! From powerful curriculum guide planning sessions and transformative summer programs to major leaps forward on our new school building, every moment has been used to strengthen our mission and reimagine what’s possible for our Mustang learners. The momentum we’ve built together is undeniable, and it’s setting the stage for one of our best years yet. Get ready to step into a new school year filled with excitement, innovation, and the deep joy of teaching and learning—we are moving forward, together! #MarshallElevatEDSummer Hours

Email from M. Vogler on 6/24/25
Dear Teachers,
The Teaching and Learning Department invites you to join us as early adopters in a paid curriculum guide collaboration this summer. We are hosting two work sessions to support the launch and development of our new curriculum guides:
Elementary Teachers: Monday, July 21
Secondary Teachers: Tuesday, July 22
Time: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Location: Flagstaff High School Commons
Pay: $40/hour
These full-day work sessions will be facilitated by district leadership and will focus on:
Adding pacing guides to the curriculum
Identifying and integrating key curricular resources
Beginning lesson planning from the guides
Teachers also have the opportunity to collaborate with their school sites or cross district teams on July 21 (secondary teachers) and July 22 (elementary teachers) at the same rate.
Our main goal is to clarify the first unit of study in each guide and begin building a shared resource library to support instruction throughout the school year.
Additionally, Dr. Jaime Festa-Daigle and Mike Vogler will share the plan for formally introducing the curriculum guides to all staff during the Welcome Back Day on July 30.
If you're interested in participating in this meaningful work, please sign-up here. We appreciate your commitment to excellence and collaboration! Warmly,
Dr. Jaime Festa-Daigle

New Curriculum Guide Development
On the first week on June, we wrapped up four days of hard work developing the initial drafts of the Curriculum Guides portion of the FUSD Instructional Playbook! We ended up with 186 teachers, teacher leaders, and administrators collaborating on over 45 subject and grade-level curriculum guides over the 30 hours we were together! Teachers came away feeling empowered and good about the direction the district is taking with the work they started.
If you would like to preview some of the work that was done this week, you can access the curriculum guides here:
While this was a great start, this work is not complete. It will continue into this school year and beyond. Please stay tuned for information from Dr. Jaime Festa-Daigle and the Curriculum and Instruction (Teaching and Learning) Department regarding the rollout and continuation of this work with the teachers who were unable to attend this week.
