Introduction to Project Momentum

A brief background before you are introduced to it on August 2nd.

FUSD has joined the ranks of many other school district in the state (Mesa, Alhambra, Avondale, Buckeye, Deer Valley, Marana, Paradis Valley, Tucson, Balsz, Florence, Ganado, Humboldt, Kingman, Maricopa, Page, Parker, Washington and more) through Project Momentum. From ADE- "Project Momentum Arizona is committed to helping educators do the right work to ensure that all students succeed. Continual improvement to advance student learning is the mission of every school. When experience and evidence are conclusive that a professional practice or action produces the best results, we are duty-bound to engage in that pursuit."

You can learn more here and here if you are interested in the ADE/Project Momentum overview.

Based on our student achievement data, Marshall will choose our quarterly goals for improvement. This is the work we will do on Aug. 2 following Dr. Dan Mulligan's professional development session.

Through this work we will be unwrapping standards, establishing performance level descriptors, reviewing vertical alignment, developing common assessments aligned to the performance level descriptors, developing success criteria for student goals and reflection, and planning instruction/intervention/extension. We will begin this work at our PD on August 2nd and will continue it throughout the year. Completing this work and growing our PLCs are our primary focus areas this year.  We previewed some of this work in grades 3-5 last year.

You can find a sample of standards work here and here -

FUSD has our OWN web page for this work.  You can access it HERE.

Tucson is a few years ahead of us.  You can see their work HERE.  Truly amazing work that we can refer to and make our own.
