- Complete classroom spelling bee and email me the winners (1st and 2nd place) by Friday, November 20th
- Give your classroom winner and runner up the school spelling bee study list (you will also receive this from me)
- School wide spelling bee - Friday, December 4th
- All grade levels are invited to participate!
- This Thursday, November 5, the cafeteria will be offering Navajo Tacos as a lunch choice. Parent volunteers will be making the frybread. We want to celebrate by also having students dress up for Heritage Day and wear clothing that represents their culture. I have attached a flyer in case you want to print.
- I also attached NAESP's November calendar which includes dress up days for the whole month.
- I have several books at many reading levels if anybody would like to borrow one! Including Frybread which would be a great one to read on Thursday 🙂
- I also would love to chat with anybody who needs ideas of how to elevate and celebrate this month appropriately. Tons of resources and ideas both in my brain and that I can help you find online.
- Please send me any photos of students dressing up for the dress up days or anything your class is doing for Native American Heritage Month so I can share on socials!
We will honor our very own Mr. Billy Weldon along with friends and family or community members who wish to join us.
Building on our meaningful work during October around Digital Fluency and responsible technology integration, I am excited to share our third monthly State 48 resource as we continue navigating by our district's "North Star," the State 48 Graduate Profile.
Please find attached the FUSD State 48 November Guide: Self-Awareness and Management
Self-Awareness and Management is far more than recognizing emotions; it is using personal insight, reflection, and emotional regulation to guide decision-making that supports well-being and long-term success in school, work, and life. Throughout November, our districtwide focus centers on five key competencies: recognizing personal and cultural identity, identifying individual strengths and goals, balancing priorities and wellness, regulating emotions to sustain focus, and making impactful decisions that consider others. Developing these competencies provides the internal strength and personal discipline our learners need to thrive across their post-secondary paths whether in Enrollment, Employment, Enlistment & Service, or Entrepreneurship.
This guide provides clear, actionable direction tailored for every member of our FUSD team:
For Instructional Staff: The guide connects November’s Essential directly to FUSD’s BRAVE Theory of Action, Restorative Practices, and our Anti-Bias and Anti-Racism commitment to honoring our district's rich diversity. It focuses on using Fall Panorama Survey data to elevate student Sense of Belonging, embedding restorative classroom circles, and leveraging Teacher Clarity to help students reflect on their personal strengths and goals.
For Operational and Classified Staff: Because cultivating belonging and emotional regulation happens across all campus services, the guide provides practical Commitments to Action for transportation, facilities, FACTS after-school care, safety, technology, food service, and custodial teams.
For Site Administrators: It outlines our Fall Panorama Survey follow-up actions including finalizing site Action Plans, targeting districtwide Sense of Belonging goals, utilizing Panorama Playbook resources, and training classroom teachers to access student survey data.
For Student Engagement: It features age-appropriate reflective questions for elementary, middle, and high school students to foster self-reflection, goal setting, emotional regulation, and personal accountability in every learning space.
Let’s keep our North Star overhead and the central fire of our shared purpose at the heart of our work. Thank you for your continued dedication to ensuring that for Every Student - Every Path, every day in FUSD truly counts.
Sincerely,
Michael Penca
Superintendent
