Week 2.5

We have officially passed the 10 day mark.  Thank you for your consistent communication while we continue to work through large class sizes.  I assure you our problem is a welcomed one as we have certainly surpassed projected enrollment!  More to come on how we will handle growth early next week.  For now, enjoy your well deserved weekend.  Take time to refresh, reset, reflect and play with all the new apps Renda taught us about!  Thank you for participating in our first professional learning opportunity as a staff.

Update: 8/28/2018

What an amazing Monday/Tuesday working with the 1st, 4th and 5th grade teams and support staff (Russ, Amy, Heather, Stefanie, Joni & Erin) to rearrange five classes!  Here is what you need to know....
We lost our 2/3 and 4/5 SEI classes and gained a 3/4 SEI, another section of 1st grade, a 4/5 combo class to level out our high numbers.  NOT easy on any of us but will be so worth it in the end.  First grade will being with new rosters on Thursday following open house.  The 3/4 SEI, 4th and 5th grade students will being their new placement and schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 4th.

Congratulations to the following teachers in their new roles at Marshall:

Julie Ryan, 1/2 SEI (all 2nd graders moved from 2/3 SEI)
Sarah Milios, 4th grade

Judith Arnold, 4/5 combo
NEW HIRE, 3/4 SEI
Please take time to look at the new specials schedule CLOSELY as many dominoes were moved.  Let me know if you see any issues with your specials.

First full week of school in the books!

I am inspired by each of you!
You stayed late to assist with late buses.
You helped a colleague fix the jammed printer.
You covered the front office.
You helped cover K/1 lunch and recess.
You helped a lost little find her place.
You escorted tears to the nurse's office.
You laughed it off.
You were patient with technology issues during testing.
You scrubbed graffiti off the playground.
You checked in on our two patients.
You brought issues and ideas to the front office!
You showed up on time (8:15am) an often early.
You continue to be patient with our large class sizes.
You fed a hangry kid in need.
You negotiated.
You identified problems and brainstormed solutions.
You taught life and academic lessons.
You smiled, a lot.
You were an awesome team to watch.
You set the bar high!
WE RISE by lifting each other!

Let's do it all again next week! (insert strong arm emoji here) <------I'll get there ;)
Monday: EL Specialist district meeting (10:30am-3pm)
Tuesday: Speech Therapist district meeting (8-10am)
Wednesday: Reasor at ELETeam (Elementary Admin 9am-12pm)

Keep in mind:
Our open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29th from 5:30-7:00pm.
I would like to welcome all to the gym from 5:30-6:00pm.  I will make a welcoming announcement and all can walk around the gym (farm table by food services, multiple information booths, music? slideshow? etc.).  Let's bring it!  Who has ideas? All will be released to your rooms at 6:00pm.
I am really excited about this and it's coming up quick.

Housekeeping:
Department Chairs? If you are interested, please let me know.  One primary, one intermediate.  There will be work associated with this.

Math Leadership Team:  Macias is participating once again on MLT.  Who would like join him and other teachers from FUSD?  Let me know.

Morning Announcements.  How do you wish to choose kids from your classroom to lead us in the morning?  I will support your system.  We will strive to make announcements (if any), have a moment of silence (10 sec) and lead in the pledge of allegiance at 8:50am every morning. For now, the character pledge is on your own if you choose.  We should create a new pledge! GREAT PBIS project.

Wednesday Afternoon Bus Duty.  We need help on Wednesdays.  Our Kinder team is in specials until 3:15pm.  They cannot dismiss their kinders while loading buses.  Please email me if you can step up and help on Wednesdays.

PBIS Not gonna sugarcoat it....WE NEED PBIS up and running yesterday!  Can you help?

Enjoy your well deserved weekend!  Rest, read, reflect, recover.
