February OUT! Three snow days!!

Providing calm amid the chaos: Lessons learned from a lockdown

Did you see the article in the Daily Sun on Thursday, February 21st?  This is why we do what we do!  Thank you for enduring yet another fire drill.  I appreciate the feedback I received.  We have much to discuss as we drill during different times of the day/week.

I look forward to that discussion in April when FUSD rolls out it's more sophisticated Safety Plan. For now, take a moment to read about how our drills helped this family when danger was way too close for comfort.  You can link to the article HERE.

What did you do with your 4-day weekend?
That was a quick month!!
Seriously, where did that time go?  We continue to move full STEAM ahead as we look toward Family Fitness Night, Science Fair Family Night, NAU STEM Night, Book Fair, Parent University, assessments, staffing, scheduling, etc!  What an exciting time!

5th Annual Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration

We all know Marshall makes this our STEAM night! Our table has been an event favorite. We need to know who will participate this year. What interactive project can you bring to the table? Wish to display something? Great! Marshall is doing AMAZING things! This is our chance to show the community! Please let Alysa Greenberg know as it is a couple weeks away! Put some students in charge of an activity. We will stand back and watch the magic.
Bring it guys!

Forward Momentum

Thank you to each and every one of you who stepped up to help out in the absence of teachers, support staff, students, admin and more!  It takes all pieces of this beautiful puzzle to function at our highest and I am beyond appreciative for the team work I didn't get to witness first-hand this week, but did get to hear all about!  THANK YOU!!!

    Takeaways
~Emotions are the fast lane to the brain.
~Amygdala Hijacking is real!
~ When your ‘WHY’ is big enough, self-discipline becomes stronger than excuses.
~What do our students NEED from us?

1. Positive, supportive relationships

2. High, consistent expectations

3. Opportunities to serve

~Teach kids about neuroplasticity. They need to know THEY have the ability to change THEIR brain!
Neurons that fire together…WIRE together!

Yes, I spent much of my time going back to the basics of brain development and specifically how to reach and then teach these Generation Alpha brains in an "iWorld".  There continues to be a large focus on Social Emotional Learning (SEL), the technology revolution and student agency.  We are on the right path.  We have that growth mindset. We have what it takes to take each and every student HIGHER.  I am really excited as we begin to look into the direction our district and our school are headed.

On that note, February is a BIG planning month. Only 19 of us have filled out this google form. Please encourage all staff to do so.

Planning for 2019/2020
Please fill out this brief google form to assist in planning for next year.  You have to click on the words google form :)

Fire Preparedness
We are looking good for the surprise Fire Marshal visit. One more thing to consider, please be aware that all furniture adjacent to your door must be at least 13" (we think) from the egress.  :)
