April is here!

I thought it was funny :)

I cannot keep up with the fast clock, the passing days, months, quarters.  It is all too fast.  This first week of April brings many opportunities for our Marshall students!  An opportunity to show off "Monkey Song" on the violin.  An opportunity to complete the writing assignment in preparation for AzMERIT.  An opportunity to crush the AzMERIT - Go Fifth Graders!!!! ("try your hardest, do your best, and always remember you are more than a test")!  An opportunity to really analyze Marshall's greatest needs and develop our Integrated Action Plan for FY20.  And an opportunity for us all to support each and every student in their performances (from Suzuki violin to AzMERIT and each effort in between)!  April is going to be Amazing!!  Thank you for supporting all of our kiddos in the hall, at lunch, in passing. Even the simplest connection (a smile, a hello, a good morning, acknowledging a haircut, a kind word of encouragement) can have a profound impact on that child’s day.

Technology Bond Update
~ Ipads have been chosen as the device for secondary.
~ IPAD carts will move down from H.S. to elementary in Spring of 2020.

AdvancED Update
~Eleot observations will continue this week with myself, Overton and McAllister.
~It has come to my attention that many are confused about the numerous survey requests coming from FUSD.  I hope this will help clarify:
  • In December, myself, Overton and McAllister went to AdvancED training and completed online certifications. We will continue to pop in unannounced for 20 min to collect data via observation.  This is NOT an evaluation.
  • In January, the Engagement Surveys went out to certified teachers and students (McAllister facilitated student surveys in Technology class).
  • In February, the Marshall Leadership Team met for close to 6 hours to complete the AdvancED School Quality Factor Diagnostic and is currently collecting evidence for May deadline.
  • In March (over spring break), FUSD sent out the Continuous Improvement Survey (CIS) to certified staff AND parents.  This was confusing for those who are Marshall certified staff and parents of students in the district.  There are two separate surveys.
  • In April, staff and students will take the Culture & Climate Survey. McAllister will facilitate student surveys for grades 3-5 again.
~Your Marshall Leadership Team is working hard to complete the School Quality Factor Diagnostic.  Want to learn more?  We will discuss as a staff in May!

School Improvement Plan
~The CNA (Comprehensive Needs Analysis) has been completed.  Next, the Marshall Leadership Team will solidify our IAP (Integrated Action Plan) and I will be submitting the TSI (Targeted Support and Innovation) Grant application by mid April.  Want to learn more?  Please ask us:

While Marshall students in grades 3-5 will work so hard to crush their test, I know that they are crushing so much more because of You!!!  YOU helped her learn how to be just a little more empathetic.  YOU saw him light up when he crushed his cold read and shattered his previous record.  YOU watched all four students raise their arms in victory when time was up and they progressed in REFLEX Math.  YOU helped them submit their first ever pod cast for the NPR competition.  YOU will take too many pictures on your iPad when your students perform onstage at Hurley Theatre.  YOU were able to touch base with a newly split family who needs communication to maintain their sanity.  YOU welcomed a new foster student to Marshall and reassured his family that he is in great hands.  YOU value the whole child and your role in shaping their future.  I am beyond proud of YOU and the work you do!  Genuinely!

Final quarter, final push!

Together, we rise.  Together, we finish strong!

This is it!  This is our final quarter filled with assessments, experiential learning excursions, final project completions and seeing our students really achieve the greatness we are pushing hard for!  This is our final push in preparing them for the next grade level and for some, our last chance in preparing them for middle school success!  I spent much of my spring break reflecting on all we have accomplished (wow, have we been busy). I some much of my spring break planning for all we have left to do (wow, we will be busy).  I spent most of my spring break resting and relaxing in preparation for the energy this final quarter will require.  I hope you too are rested and ready for our final push, together!

From Food Services: "For elementary schools this will mean silverware packs with no straws and for schools that are serving smoothies there will be no straw with the student’s smoothie. Did you sign up for the Remind app?

I have downloaded the Remind App (FREE).  This "All Staff" communication will be used when necessary.  For example, if we were to go in lock down, I might be able to send out one text to you all communicating what is going on.  Please take a moment to click this link and enter your information (ALL certified and classified).  I will conduct a test early this week.  Thank you all for taking school safety so seriously.  I am sorry it took me so long to find such an app.
