Spirit Week!

YOU did it! You survived this week.
It was not an easy one.
That full moon?  The barometric pressure?  The AzMERIT pressure?  I do not know what it was but I do know it was not easy! Thank you to each and everyone of you who contributed to helping out with student behaviors, student misbehaviors, covering duties, flexing special schedules, field trip planning/execution, quiet hallways, covering classes, etc.
It is a daily dance and it does not work without the TEAM work!
So let's take a minute to pause~~~~~~~~~reflect on our accomplishments... AND celebrate this week!  We will enjoy spirit week with daily dress up and we will honor our test takers on Friday morning with a HUGE HALLWAY cheer!  Your awesome PBIS committee has also put together a blue ticket field day on Friday following the recognition of our 3-5 graders brought to you by our K-2 graders!  We really are getting better at celebrating our successes this year! It may be extra work, but it is well worth it!

Earth Day on Monday
Thank you FACTS for decorating our entrance! "Can't have Earth w/o Art"

As we move toward 1:1 technology, the professional learning plan for the district will begin with the secondary level in the fall. Of course there will be plenty of opportunities to participate in Tech-related PDs throughout the year, you just won't be required to take the 1:1 PD plan hours until 2020-21.

Final assessment push!

Here we go...
3rd graders, you are up!  Good luck to all of our 3rd graders as we finish out our final week of standardized testing.  Thank you all for your cooperation in keeping students away from windows, quiet in the halls, rearranging lunch schedules, rearranging special area schedules and more.  It truly takes a team, EVERY DAY to pull off all we do here at Marshall!  I appreciate this team more than I can express!

4th grades, you have one more assessment to rock on Tuesday!

Technology Bond Update:
~The mandatory Professional Learning 301 plan will target secondary levels next year.  However, there will continue to be many opportunities so keep your eye on the PD calendar for many 301 opportunities around technology as we move forward.
~FUSD Technology has committed to investing in a few awesome Tools to Support Teaching & Learning:
Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) – Plan, implement and deliver education.  It is a single Ecosystem to house all technology apps.
Learn more at Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
Nearpod - FUSD bought it!  This is very exciting for premade lessons, formative assessment tools and more!
Apple Classroom (this is very different from Google classroom) -iPad and Mac app to guide learning, share work, connectivity and manage devices. View Guided Tour for Apple Classroom through Apple’s website (⅔ of the way down the page - under Classroom Heading)

Staffing Updates:
~Sherri Dustin has chosen to resign at the end of the contract year.  We hope to get her to come around as a substitute teacher often but she has many exciting plans ahead.
~Joni Bailey took the Attendance Clerk position at Kinsey.
We will have many to celebrate and send off to new adventures at the end of this year!

We have been given the green light to open up a forth section of 5th grade next year!  This is a huge win for us all!
Marshall is looking for the absolute best to fill the following positions for next year:
1 K-3 Resource Teacher
1 4-5 Resource Teacher
1 EL Interventionist
1 Kindergarten
1 5th grade dual cert
1 Counselor (holding out for 1.0 FTE before I post-please cross your fingers)

Program Changes:
~Fit Kids programs are not continuing in FUSD.
~XCat I will move from Marshall to Sechrist
~XCat III will move from Kinsey to Marshall
~Behavior Support K-2 will move from Sechrist to Cromer
~Behavior Support 3-5 will move from DeMiguel to Kinsey

Marshall is so proud to house our Sister XCAT programs.
Ms. Herberger has accepted the XCAT K-2 program
Ms. Beck will have the XCAT 3-5 program

AdvancED Update:
~Eleot observations will continue with myself, Overton and McAllister.
~Surveys requests were clarified in past blog.  Please note the Culture & Climate  has been postponed or canceled.
  • In April, staff and students will take the Culture & Climate Survey. McAllister will facilitate student surveys for grades 3-5 again.
~Your Marshall Leadership Team is still working hard to complete the School Quality Factor Diagnostic due in May.

School Improvement Plan:

~The CNA (Comprehensive Needs Analysis) has been submitted.  I am working hard to solidify our IAP (Integrated Action Plan) and TSI (Targeted Support and Innovation) Grant application by Monday 4/15.
My plan is to use most of these monies to support (pay) teachers in collaborated planning time.  This collaborative time will be used to plan lessons with EL and SpED resource support, to align ELA with new Sci. and Social Studies standards both vertically and horizontally, to plan UDL grade level lessons, etc.  Your time is valuable!  Our CNA indicates we need more of it, if we can't make it, we are going to have to buy it! Marshall students deserve our best!

Back to school BBQ – August 6th

Food Services has agreed to move our end of the year BBQ (chaos) to our new Back to School BBQ so our families can all come, eat, find their class, meet their teacher and then leave you alone for the rest of the week to prepare!  I am really excited about this!  I hope you are too.

Springing into field trip season!
As we move into our very busy experiential learning season, please keep in mind the following:
~All field trips need to be on the Marshall Master Calendar.
~All schedule change requests need to be submitted with 2 weeks notice.  This goes for all schedules: Sped Resource, Speech, Special Areas,  etc.
~All food service requests (sack lunches or time switches) need to be submitted with 2 weeks notice.
Communication is key and planning ahead gives us all time to plan around.
