An August to Remember

WEEKLY BLOG IS BACK!

OK, so I am bringing back the weekly BLOG intended to replace staff meetings and more emails.  Please read the BLOG post then at the bottom please acknowledge that you have read and received this information.

We Did It! We Did it Well!

WOW! This was the most unique and unforgettable return to school month any of us have ever experienced!

What stood out to me the most?

Our drive

Our teamwork

Our resiliency

Our dedication

Our troubleshooting

Our collaboration

Our support of one another

Our ability to ask for help

Our flexibility with families

As for students:

Their patience

Their desire for learning

Their thirst for socialization

Their sheer resiliency

My hope is that as we continue to grow in our practice and our tech skills that we can hold the memory of these two weeks in our minds to reflect back upon. We will never have a first month of school like this again! I'm proud of our efforts and humbled by our learning.

I am inspired by each of you!
You took time, daily, to reinforce expectations.

You supported a colleague in great need.
You brought issues and ideas to the front office!
You continue to be patient with our students and their parents.
You identified problems and brainstormed solutions.
You taught life and academic lessons.
You smiled, a lot.
You were an awesome team to watch.
You set the bar high!
You are Marshall ElevatED!!!

Thank you! Let's do it again next week.

Updates as of 8/28/2020

Safety Protocols Update

Please pick up your PPEs in the nurse's office and sign the document showing receipt of shields and face masks.

FUSD, in conjunction with Coconino County, has sent out new Covid Protocol for staff.

Staff Guidance

  • Mask Updates
The Coconino County Health and Human Services Department advised us that face shields, bandanas and scarfs no longer qualify as a viable face covering. Employees on campus must now wear a face mask at all times except when you are in your own space BY YOURSELF.  If you fall into a category in which you believe you need wear a face shield rather than a face mask, please contact Human Resources for further guidance.

C & I Update
AIMS Science is retired for good - 5th grade will take new assessment AzSCI

Attendance Update
-I should be taking attendance in both the morning and in the afternoon through synergy, correct?
ONLY AM IN SYNERGY (PRESENT OR ABSENT) THE ATTENDANCE CLERK PUTS IN THE PM.  YOU DON'T TOUCH THE PM IN SYNERGY

-Then at the end of the day I should be saying if students did not show up at all in the Marshall attendance doc, right?
THIS IS CORRECT.  AT THE END OF THE DAY, STUDENTS YOU NEVER SAW SHOULD BE MARKED WITH AN X IN THIS DOCUMENT

-If families are leaving for appointments but not returning do I mark them in synergy or does it matter because they have verbally told me they are "leaving?"
IN FRL, THEY ARE CONSIDERED PRESENT FOR THE DAY EVEN IF THEY MISS PARTS OF IT.

-Additionally, Students are still held accountable for the academic work they miss even though this is a flexible environment, yes?
THE EXPECTATION IS THEY ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. HOWEVER, WE NEED TO BE "NIMBLE" HERE.  WE HAVE OUR HIGH EXPECTATIONS WITH COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING THAT SOME FAMILIES ARE UNABLE TO HANDLE THE STRESS/WORKLOAD.  WE HAVE TO BEND WHEN NECESSARY AND KNOW WHEN THE PRESSURE IS TOO MUCH FOR SOME.  THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT, I UNDERSTAND.

Clarifications for the Safe Learning Centers (SLCs) from Mike Vogler:

  • We want to thank you for your assistance with parent contacts and keeping track of students.  This is very important to ensure the health and safety of students and staff at the Safe Learning Centers.  This is the number one concern at each site.

  • On the subject of masks: at several sites, there are students who have medical exemptions for masks.  If there are questions about masks, they should be directed to myself or Travis Drake.  Please encourage your staff to share concerns with their supervisor rather than with SLC staff or students.  There are HIPAA and other concerns that come into play when non-SLC staff members confront a student about mask compliance.  If you see a child wearing their mask incorrectly please ask them to correct it.

  • SLC staff are tasked with ensuring access to the internet, food services, and a safe environment for students to complete their assignments.  Any services related to academic support are additional.  If students need help with homework or are not completing things, then that is a subject for the student and teacher to address.  Our staff are tasked with maintaining student health and safety and that is the primary concern for the SLC.
