Thank you to the many staff members who served on the kindergarten hiring committee, 4th/5th grade hiring committee and the Instructional Specialist hiring committee! We had a flood of applicants! We had first choice due to the hard work of all committees! We are thrilled to announce the following changes in our staffing:
Kindergarten: Housholder, Burton, Jones
Grade 3: Joe, McCauslin, Foubert
Grade 4: Krause, O'Brien, Shuckman (their Bio's to come)
Grade 5: Ayala, Fisher, Mears!
Congratulations, Mrs. Hulls!
Hello Marshall Family! I feel honored to be the Instructional Specialist next year. Marshall has been my home since 2005 and I am proud to be a part of this school. I look forward to working with all of you for the benefit of our shared students. Don’t worry I will still have chocolate, books, and silverware to share.
Congratulations, Mrs. Jones!
I can't contain my excitement to be the newest member of the K-Town team!!! Walking in the doors of Marshall with my oldest daughter in 2006 for her first day of kindergarten started my dream of teaching here. I wanted to be a part of everything I saw and even though it's taken 18 years, it's the dream that's been in my mind and heart! Now that it's here, I am OVER THE MOON full of JOY to get this opportunity!!!!

Patricia Harris, FUSD Food Service
Patricia Harris is a cafeteria manager at Marshall Elementary School via Chartwells, the contracted food service provider for Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD). She said she has been working on behalf of the school district for more than 12 years through the various food service vendors. She is originally from Louisiana but has since lived in Flagstaff. She loves her job, especially being able to feed children at the school. “I like the little babies… I call them babies when they come through,” she said. “I say, ‘What’s your name, baby?’ I call them babies because my kids are grown, so they’re my little babies.” She wants parents to know their children are being fed well at school. “I love your babies coming in, and I hope they love my food,” said Patricia. “Our count has been high. We’ve been serving more than 230 children per day for lunch.” She said the numbers going up is a good thing, and they are up from last school year. Her days are so busy she does not have time for a hobby because she works a second job outside of her work with FUSD. “Once I leave here, I go home, change, and go and get ready for my next job,” she said. She enjoys working for FUSD.
WE APPRECIATE YOU, MRS. PAT!
Tutoring Money is spent! However, we can use tax credit so please continue. When you fill out your time sheet, please write "Tutoring - Tax Credit Ed. Enrich Fund" UNLESS you are working with ELL students. In that case, please write "Tutoring - ELL Fund"
Bridges Math for Next Year!! Yes, it is true!
As many might have heard, FUSD is going to pilot a new math curriculum next year called Bridges (3rd edition). Around May 2, you will receive a teacher materials kit that will be the first step in your training journey. Once we receive this kit, we will have access to an asynchronous course that you will need to complete before the end of the school year. There will be trainings in July for 301 money for the larger training session. It is an inquiry based math curriculum and it looks promising. Here are a couple of things for you to preview if you would like to learn more: Bridges video or use this link to create an account where you can preview the materials. We are ready for this and I am so glad we were able to fall into FUSD's Cohort #1.
Bridges will provide a $300 stipend to teachers for off contract PD time. Teachers who complete all the PD:

If staff have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me.

Solar Eclipse MUST KNOWS!
Monday, April 8th- The solar eclipse is on Monday, April 8th from 10:12am - 12:37pm with the peak occurring at 11:23am.
We have solar glasses for each student and teacher in the school! If you need additional glasses for guests/student teachers, please check in with the front office, as we have about 430. ALL TEACHERS MUST TALK WITH THEIR STUDENTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY WHEN USING THESE GLASSES TO VIEW THE SUN. NO GLASSES, NO GLANCING! THIS EVENT IS JUST OVER 2 HOURS LONG SO WE MUST PLAN AHEAD.
We have compiled some solar eclipse teaching resources including youtube videos, books read aloud, and some art projects. Link here. Please add to it as you find more!
Native American Students (112 students) - Please send home this form with your Native American students and collect the responses. Mrs. Jones will host Native American students who choose to opt out of viewing the eclipse in the science lab. Lunch will be served at 12:45pm for theses students.
If you take pictures of your students, please email them to Angela Waltner to get it on our social media page! Have so much fun!
