December, 2025 - Our final month in Marshall 1.0! Wow, the places we will go!!!

Legacy to Launch was a smashing success!  Thank you, each one of you, for your part in bringing it all together!  We have received so much support from the local community.  We are truly fortunate!
I hope these last three weeks will bring you several moments, however small, to take a deep breath and exhale. Between family/friend gatherings, holiday chaos, and the ever-growing to-do lists of teachers moving to a new school, it can be surprisingly hard to actually rest. But taking even a little time to recharge now will make all the difference when you welcome your students back to Marshall in 2026!  Take it one day at a time. Take it all in. We've got this...all of it!

FUSD and Movie Viewing - from Dr. Festa-Daigle

To prioritize instructional needs, protect funding available for high quality teaching and learning, and protect instructional time, a movie streaming service is not something that will be supported from the district level in a time of reduced budgets.

In the coming months, we will work to develop guidelines to ensure that staff knows expectations as it relates to what can and should be watched in class should teachers want to use digital media from other approved sources.

Salary Advancement=Extra Money

Salary advancement is a great way to increase your salary each year, in addition to regular raises. Remember, the higher your base salary, the larger the percentage raise when they happen. Reach out to Ms. Reasor for more information on ways to advance your salary.

Steps to Submit Salary Advancement:
As 2025 wraps up all staff are encouraged to submit eligible coursework for Salary Advancement consideration. All Salary Advancement submission forms and required evidence (for eligible professional learning completed from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025) must be submitted to the Frontline system by 1/31/26 to be considered for addition to the 2026-2027 contract.

Please take time to review eligibility, guidelines, procedures, as well as a video and step by step directions for submitting eligible outside PD and required evidence for potential salary advancement approval on the Salary Advancement Information Webpage (FUSD staff must be signed into the website with their FUSD single sign on credentials to access this page).

It is each staff person's responsibility to regularly check your Frontline portfolio and learning plan for notifications as any requests for additional information or declined requests are made there and any submissions and resubmissions beyond the January 31, 2025 deadline will ONLY be considered for additional compensation in the 2027-2028 school year.

Phonics Instructional Reminders

🎉Celebrations from FUSD walk-throughs

  • Monitoring of Students' Responses: Effectively track and respond to student learning in real-time.

  • Pacing - Use of Timer: Manage time and maintain lesson flow.

  • Students' Knowledge of Syllable Types/Gestures: Promoting consistent use and student mastery of introduced syllable types and associated gestures.

  • Feedback: Interventionists are providing immediate feedback.

💡Key Areas for Continued Improvement/Coaching

  • 🗣️ Instructional Dialogue-Stick to the Script: The instructional dialogue is scripted for our students to provide consistent language and clear application of concepts. Please avoid "ad libbing" or changing the language, as it can confuse students.

  • 📖 Expect Blending-Promote Independence: Teachers should expect students to blend words when reading. Scaffolding Note: Provide explicit "sound, sound, sound, word" modeling/scaffolding only for those individual students who require it OR when the lesson specifically asks students to provide individual sounds.

  • ✋ Finger Stretching- Consistent Techniques: Ensure consistent use of finger stretching (by both students and teachers). Crucial Modeling Point: Teachers must model finger stretching from left to right to reinforce the standard English reading direction for students.

  • 📝Preparation: Teachers must preview the lesson thoroughly to have materials ready, ensure deep understanding, and plan for effective pacing.

Digital Citizenship

From Christina Bowen

Digital citizenship education in grades K-12 is required for FUSD to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and receive E-rate funds.

Marshall currently does not have any teachers that have completed their required Digital Citizenship lesson and submitted the verification form It is possible that the lesson has been taught, but the form was not completed.
View the curriculum and the online verification form at:  FUSD Digital Citizenship & Wellbeing

All required lessons should be taught, and the verification form should be completed no later than Feb. 6, 2026.

United Way Info - from Mr. Penca

Good afternoon, Team FUSD,

Every day in our schools and district, we dedicate ourselves to helping our students succeed. Over the next couple of weeks, we have a special opportunity to extend that spirit of support beyond our own hallways and into the wider community we all call home.

I’m thrilled to announce the kick-off of our annual workplace campaign for the United Way of Northern Arizona, running from today, November 18, through December 5.

Why Partner with the United Way? The United Way is a powerful community-builder that brings people and resources together to achieve bold goals and tackle our region’s toughest challenges. The United Way of Northern Arizona envisions communities where all can thrive.

  • Youth Opportunity: Giving young learners a strong start through KinderCamp™ and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and supporting positive youth development so our teens can reach their full potential.

  • Healthy Communities: Helping families meet basic needs like safe housing and adequate food.

  • Financial Security: Supporting education, tools, and job training programs so families have financial freedom, peace of mind, and can build a stronger future for their children.

  • Community Resiliency: Marshaling resources and volunteers to help meet the immediate needs of the community in times of emergency.

Ready to Make a Difference? Here’s How: It only takes a moment to join the effort.

You can give in a way that works for you: payroll deduction (beginning January 2026), credit card, or a pledge to pay later using the online form linked HERE with the QR code below. Cash and check donations may be accepted by completing the attached Pledge Form and sending it to Reyna Rodriguez at the FUSD Administrative Center.

The district recently had its first grade book refinement meeting with a small K-12 leadership team! There will likely be opportunities for more support as we get into the nitty gritty of things.
