P/T Conferences ElevatED

Be Well!
Have you began recording points for your NAPEBT Wellness Program?  They have made some changes.  Check it out.  Please remember that you receive $240/yr Insurance Discount or HSA Contribution when you complete level 1 (12 points).  Level 2 is as high as you can go with this new layout.   Early 12 more points (24 total) and $120 cash is added to your paycheck, Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account.  It's easy money ($360.00).  I want you to have it. Mostly, I want you to be healthy.  There are some good/quick videos and lots of resources available to us.  Make yourself a priority.  You're worth it!

ELL Strategies

Experts agree there are a few simple things all teachers can do immediately to support their ELL populations. These simple strategies also reinforce learning for all types of students and are key components of our early literacy programs:
Visuals: Providing an additional way of accessing information ELLs may not have the language proficiency to understand helps them immeasurably to comprehend instructions, vocabulary, or content concepts.
Repetition: Processing and retaining new information takes repetition. Short videos are easy to replay or rewind to reinforce vocabulary and key learning concepts.
Review: Learning games and fun quizzes allow ELLs to hear the information covered in class again to help solidify the day's lesson.
Background Information: Many classroom resources are created under the assumption that all students have uniform past experiences. Providing background knowledge prior to reading or writing activities is particularly essential for ELLs.
Systematic Phonics Instruction: Learning the 44 sounds in English is the first step to a solid foundation in reading. Phonological skills must be automatic for reading to be fluent, smooth, and accurate.

Taiko Drumming is coming!

Marshall will welcome back Tony Trapasso for our 3-week Taiko Drumming Artist in Residency from Oct. 14-Nov. 1.  You will all experience Taiko during your regularly scheduled music instruction time.  The 5th grade target group will practice 3 times a week. I will let you know if Mei can make it out and if she will once again host the Asian Culinary Experience.

Staff Engagement Committee
It was a pleasure to sit in on this committee meeting on Friday.  Andrea Shaw will be collecting $10/person - Classified & Certified= We are 65+ strong - $650.00+ will get us a long way!

Also, please look through your photos and be ready to submit an elementary photo of yourself to Amy Hanno.  This committee has some fun plans for those!
