Thank you for what you are about to do for students and for each other!

15 Tips for Leading Productive Parent-Teacher Conferences
- Show you care!
- Offer a flexible conference schedule
- Prepare, prepare, prepare
- Arrange for a translator if needed (see me) and find a way to connect
- Approach parents with positive assumptions
- Share real stories and student work ~THIS IS THEIR TIME TO SHINE!
- Be solution oriented
- Create clear goals
- Avoid education jargon
- Give parents responsibility - Yes, I said it! It is worth a try!
- Encourage questions
- If a parent becomes confrontational, don't engage
- Remain professional at all times
- Stay in contact with parents
- Take the opportunity to LEARN - Take a look at this form and make it your own for valuable feedback on the first 3 quarters.
- Build a cohesive community. Design lessons and activities that regularly mix in-person and hybrid students in virtual breakout rooms and apps you've already been using virtually.
- Optimize tech to bring virtual students into the classroom. One teacher projects her computer screen on a whiteboard for in-person students and then shares her screen on Zoom for remote kids. The projector has speakers that allow in-person students to hear what their remote peers are saying.
- If extra tech is limited, maximize class interactions by repeating what virtual students ask or answer to their in-person classmates and vice versa. Teachers can also facilitate class conversations through digital discussion boards.
- Accept that everything will take longer. Pacing is just going to be slower, and that's ok.
- Give your tech setup a couple of dry runs before your first day of concurrent teaching. Testing audio beforehand is essential.
- Keep everything digital. Online resources and materials and submitting homework digitally are what kids are already accustomed to using, so stick with it.
- Remember to breathe and to laugh. Here's a kickstart to the laughter from principal-comedian Gerry Brooks, who wishes you all a "great hybrid day."
- Reach out if you need help! We are all here to support each other. Please remember Christine Burton is available Tues-Thurs to assist us ALL in setting up our rooms.
