Marshall is bursting with student teachers from NAU this semester! I am so excited for them and all they will experience here at Marshall. We will meet our student teachers at the staff meeting on Tuesday morning. We will also have Praxis program coordinators come talk with us about the NAU Praxis program which will begin at Marshall in two weeks. I cannot assume we all know about this program. Here is a brief description:
The Praxis Partnership is a local, school-based program with embedded reflection and coaching specifically designed for dual majors in both special and elementary education. This program is designed to prepare candidates to effectively teach all learners of all abilities, focusing on the many connections as well as cognitive, social and cultural differences among students. Faculty partner with strong local schools and teachers as candidates are placed in multiple school-based practicum opportunities. Special Education and Elementary Education courses are taught over four semesters starting in the 2nd semester of the sophomore year and followed through the entire program by Praxis coordinating faculty. The Praxis partnership is built upon the foundation of reflective practices, then built with effective inclusive practices including Universal Design for Learning, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Growth Mindset.
