Inspiring & Admiring

A friend and colleague of mine shared something with me that really resonated.
She said each of us ebb and flow between inspiring and admiring. We look to others who we admire, and it makes us want to be better, to strive, to thrive, to emulate. Or, often unbeknownst to us, we are admired by others, for any myriad of reasons. They admire us and they want to be better, to strive, to thrive, or to emulate.  So sometimes, whether you want to be inspirational or not, you are. And, you may never know who you inspired or how you've inspired.
How powerful of a thought is that? It inspired me to push forward a bit harder, to lean in a bit more, and to reflect with greater intention.
With great admiration,
Janelle

From your Wellness Committee:
The Wellness Committee hopes everyone is doing as well as they can given the current circumstances. We had a few ideas and plans that we would like to include the Marshall Family in.

We would like to pilot a few things this coming week! The first being a positive affirmation that we hope to include in the Blog and also the Monday announcements.

  1. Weekly Affirmation to repeat on your own and with your students!

    • This week is “I AM BRAVE”

  2. Weekly Challenges

    • This week is  “Take a walk for 10 minutes a day, twice this week.”

  3. Weekly Healthy Recipe

    • Gerlick’s Healthy Smoothie

      • Smoothie [1 banana, ½ cup fruit, 1 cup of almond milk (any), 1 cup of greens (spinach or kale), 1sp of chia or hemp seed]

  • The hope is that each class say the Affirmation in unity once a day. We hope to have a new Affirmation each week. On February 1st, we hope to have two Live PADLETs that allow for Staff and Students to engage with.

  • Both Padlets will allow staff and students to post themselves saying their positive affirmation, drawing a doodle for their affirmation or noting how the Affirmation helped them. *Ms. V. will be sending a Staff e-mail with an explanation of the Padlets for Staff and Expectations for Students.

    • The Padlets will also have two more columns, one in which will have a weekly challenge (This week is walking for 10 minutes a day, twice a week), and another for people to post their healthy recipes or a photo of the healthy recipe of the week (This week is a smoothie for Ms. Gerlick).

      • The hope is to share the Padlet at the end of the week on Fridays to build community and pride.

  • We are excited to implement the Affirmations, Padlets, Challenges and would like to Pilot them for Staff this week. The hope is to begin all three the week of February 1st!

**More information will be included in the Next Blog so keep your eyes on the lookout!**

Thank you for your participation in the CNA survey!  ~School Improvement Committee

Please help us all see what is happening behind the scenes!

~Thank you, To everyone who helped support me and my family with a meal or funds for a meal while I was in recovery from surgery. We could not have done it without you! So many thanks and love from myself and Mark! ~ Ms. Fisher

Concurrent Teaching PD (voluntary)

Since we are still unsure of our return to school date and our Marshall families current preference in returning to school or staying at home, we are keeping our minds and professional learning options open! The elementary principals have been working with a representative from LSI (Learning Science International) to offer PD on Concurrent Teaching in 2 hour blocks. Dates are February 5, 8, 11,16, and 26. After school sessions would run 3:30 - 5:30pm (TPPP, 301 or Salary Advancement) and Friday sessions would be from 1-3pm. There will be 35 spots available on a first come first serve basis. It will be very beneficial to sign up with your grade level team.  I just sent email (on Friday) from Rochelle Bronson regarding this training if you are interested in learning more.

Learning Loss Committee (yep, I'm on it)

ESSER II -
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSA), was signed into law on December 27, 2020 and provides an additional $54.3 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER II Fund).  FUSD is looking at different ways to support the learning loss that has transpired as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic and will use ESSERII funding to support this. Educational recovery efforts will be ongoing- measured in years, not months.

Summer School Possibilities-
FUSD will once again offer summer learning opportunities for our students. This year's programming will be expanded.  So many innovative ideas and opportunities for teachers and students alike.  I will continue to keep you posted.

District Wide Tier 2 Reading Intervention-
The C & I Dept is looking to adopt a district-wide Tier 2 reading intervention for all elementary schools. At this time they are considering the adoption of Lexia Core 5. Please share any feedback you have on this recommendation with Russ, Amy, Denise and myself. Thanks!
