Are you ready for fall? I know, it just seems impossible to be here already. I hope you received my ConnectEd on Thursday evening thanking our students and our staff for an amazing start to the school year. We really are working on all cylinders. All of us. I see you! Thank you!
FROM FUSD:
Updated Discipline Mask Matrix
Students are expected to wear appropriate face coverings correctly while on site. In a case where a student refuses to wear a mask while at school the following interventions can be implemented.
Gaiters, bandanas, buffs, and scarves will not be allowed as an alternative for students, staff, or visitors to use as a face covering. Please help us catch the gaiters and provide the student with a disposable.
1st Offense The student will be reminded to wear the mask properly, completely covering their nose and mouth. If the student complies and this is not a recurring incident, then no further action is needed.
2nd Offense
If the student continues to refuse to wear a mask they will be redirected to the site administration. The student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) will be contacted to pick the student up from school for the day. Students will wait in the main office until parents come to school to pick up their student.
3rd Offense If the student continues to refuse to wear a mask the student will no longer be allowed to attend in-person instruction but may seek enrollment in the District’s virtual educational program.
Peace Place
So many of you have already created your peace place or peace corners. You made this a focus and expressed that you wish to learn more. Well we have a plan for YOU! This plan is FULL of supports! First of all, we are mandated to have 2 hours of Restorative Solutions training at our site on the Sept. 20th Professional Development Day. We are so excited that our classified staff will also be receiving Restorative Practice professional development on that day as well (place TBD)! So your Implementation Team will provide training on peace corners during this time. We have also purchased supplies for all of our teachers. Furthermore, we will be providing you signage, very similar to what you will see in this video. I LOVE this video below! What an amazing young one learning how to regulate her feelings. Look at all the awesomeness we ordered for you all.
Operation School Bell OSB Clothing Bags is a sponsored program by the Flagstaff Assistance League. This program is once a month for two referrals from your classroom and prefers students that are in need of clothing. Please get your info to Peggy Murray! So awesome!

From Superintendent Penca:
FUSD staff and students should be prepared to transition to temporary remote learning with little advance notice, including having Canvas and Zoom links prepared, and students taking iPad devices and other needed materials home each day.
NAU men’s basketball student-athletes
want to get out in schools to spend some time with our students. They have really been looking forward to making an impact in our community. See message below:
Unfortunately, with a lot still unknown about the risks of COVID and being in groups, we are not going to be able to physically be in the classrooms. After our season, we will reevaluate and hope to actually get out to schools.
In the meantime, if your school has any interest in us reading over zoom and would like to set up any sessions, please let me know as we would love to do that!
