Hello March!

Students:

Claimed Full Day Fridays: Students will be dismissed at 3:25pm on the below dates.

  • March 3, 2023

  • March 8, 2023 (Wednesday)

  • March 24, 2023

  • April 7, 2023

  • April 14, 2023

  • April 21, 2023 - Staff PD Day rescheduled (TBD)

  • April 28, 2023

  • May 5, 2023

  • May 12, 2023

  • May 19, 2023 - We are considering keeping this a ½ day and moving the full day to May 18th, which was originally set aside for standards reports. May 19 would then be a half day that we would use for Gradebook/standards reports.

March 31 is a scheduled half day and will remain so. This is due to high school ACT testing and their need for a half day that week. We will also have our half day that Friday.

Staff:

Past Snow Days:  Certified Staff and Licensed Professionals are expected to work their contractual days/times, or use available leave, to make-up five (5) days after the end of the school year.  Information will be forthcoming regarding opportunities for professional learning and collaboration to account for these days.

Potentially 2-3 Days district planned, 1-2 days site-based.

Classified staff: Make up hours during that week or use leave time

Present and Future Snow Days:

Certified and Licensed Professional staff: may work remotely from home or offsite

on any future dates school is canceled.  These days can be used for individual or

collaborative planning time, or remote meetings and professional development

opportunities scheduled by administrators.

  • Staff will be responsible for ensuring completion of Telecommuting/Work from Home Agreements to verify remote work on that day.  The Telecommuting/Work from Home Agreement will be emailed each morning of the cancellation day.

  • Staff choosing not to work remotely on these canceled days will be expected to call off and use personal leave.

Classified staff: can either make up time during the same week of a cancellation, work remotely, or use leave.

  • Classified staff time will be managed by the Time Clock Plus system.

  • Menu of professional development options will be shared

  • Talk to your direct supervisor for ideas/support

Dr. Huffman is collecting our ideas for how to make up the 5 days. Mrs. Burton hosted a zoom meeting and many ideas were given.

Please together with colleagues to brainstorm ideas – peer groups, departments, grade-level teams. Use this link to submit your proposal. When done, share your copy back to me (Reasor) as well as Dr. Huffman at lhuffman@fusd1.orgProposal for Make-up Days (Summer, 2023) This must be done by Friday.

Marshall - Best Practices in our final months

Our growth mindset is strong! Marshall teachers are working so hard this year on the Science of Reading knowledge, strategies, and practice. K-3 has really dug deep into phonics with our 95% PCP. School-wide, we are going deeper with our Restorative Practices. I get to see the amazing knowledge come to practice in your classrooms. Marshall encourages peer to peer observations and self reflection opportunities to continue to grow in our Tier I instruction. Every year we include this in our School Improvement Plan (IAP) and while you continue to express it is important, we always seem to run out of time. Let's really plan ahead this year! Use this form to set up a time/date for Swivl technology to record your lesson and reflect upon your practice. Use this form to request coverage to observe best practices in another classroom. Please be specific with days and times to assist us in coverage. We are doing amazing things! Let's continue to grow, together.

Help us see behind the scenes!  Take a moment to validate a Wingman!

It is important to remember that February can be really hard for many!

It’s that time of the year.

Where the holiday break is definitely in the past.
Where testing pressure has started to increase.
When a three-day weekend is close…..but not quite close enough.
Take time today to remember that we alone have the power to choose our good attitude.
Be the kind of person who doesn’t allow other people or circumstances to dictate how we feel or treat those around us. Instead, be the consistent one for those around you.
Be thankful for the impact that we have on not only our students but also on our peers.
Choose to be happy. Choose to be positive. Choose to smile. That doesn’t mean you are unaware of circumstances, or stress, or drama, or struggles….it just means you choose to RISE above it and be happy anyway.

Morning announcements moving forward

As you can see, the staff is very split re: the frequency of morning announcements.  If you consider the comments and include them in the decision, it would be 58.8% M-F and 47% T/Th only.   I do know we have done a great job of cutting back on the unnecessary and increasing our cultural awareness.  We (Fisher, Krause, Ayala, Valenzuela, Mears, and Foubert) propose M, W, F as a great compromise based on your feedback.  Birthdays are very important to our students.  Also, being on the same page with communication is always a priority. Please make sure your class is in compliance with the pledge of allegiance and the Marshall moment on T,TH.  Thank you all for your feedback. Forms response chart. Question title: Announcements moving forward. Number of responses: 17 responses.

Parent Teacher Conference - A little info
Do you need supplies for P/T Conferences?  If so, let me know ASAP so we can order out of our Title I funds earmarked for Parent Engagement materials. Conferences are scheduled the three days before spring break.  I recognize that Marshall teachers bend over backwards to accommodate our families and their very diverse schedules.  By conferencing late, you might be able to leave for spring break at 1:00pm upon request as long as all students are gone.  Classified staff, you can work your hours to accommodate the early departure on Friday and will not be required to stay late. Please note that conferences will not begin earlier than attendance rollover and printing of standards reports. However, conferences can happen after spring break if needed. Thank you all for trying to reach 100% of our families! We will track using the link below and submit to Mr. Penca for his governing board report.

Watch Out for Chatbot Scams
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

(FUSD note: Below is a note from our phishing training vendor)

Chatbots on Scam Websites

Cybercriminals can use chatbots to make their phishing websites seem more legitimate. For example, cybercriminals can add a chatbot to their scam websites. If you click a link to the scam website, the chatbot will pop up and guide you through the process of entering your sensitive information. The interactive experience makes the website seem legitimate, so you may be more likely to fall for the scam.

Chatbots and Phishing Emails

Cybercriminals can use AI chatbots to create text for phishing emails. For example, cybercriminals can enter a simple prompt like “Write a phishing email that appears to come from Google”. The chatbot will create an email that appears to come from Google and asks you to perform an action, like clicking a link. This way, cybercriminals can use chatbot text to target you with phishing emails.

What Can I Do to Stay Safe?

Don’t fall for chatbot scams! Follow the tips below to stay safe:

  • Even if a message seems legitimate, remain cautious. Cybercriminals can use chatbots to impersonate organizations, brands, and people.
  • When you receive an email, stop, and look for red flags. For example, watch out for emails that prompt you to click links.
  • Verify that messages are legitimate before sharing any sensitive information. Contact the sender directly by using another method of communication.
