Goodbye August, Hello September!

Blogger has been compromised.  Most information is missing from the original blog posted on August 27th.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  This is a fraction of what was included in the blog.

Away for the Day includes cell phones, smart watches, and Pokemon Trading Cards.

Kindergarten Konversations

Mrs. Bianco “K put your knife away”

Mrs. Burton “Happy Birthday! You are five now!”

Here is the  FORM to fill out for the Mustang Gallop Theme for your class.

HERE ARE the directions on how teachers can access the Student SPED/504 Information sheet. The other way is no longer accessible. The gen ed teacher will have access to all their SPED students on one list through this portal, as long as the teacher is listed on the student's profile page with their name and email address under the gen ed section.

High Quality Instruction
Culture of Feedback
As previously mentioned, FUSD is asking principals to be in classrooms weekly doing 20-ish min observations and scheduling brief instructional coaching feedback meetings. I will be working on that schedule this week. Please note: I am always flexible so please communicate your needs with me as your time comes close. I will not surprise you for these visits. These are informal observations but evidence can be applied to Formal TEI.  For several of my walkthroughs, I may be joined by Heather Overton, Alianah Ramirez, and/or Lance Huffman. If you are uncomfortable with multiple people in your room, please reach out to me to discuss.

Indicators of High Quality Instruction

Here is one of the observational tools that will be used when Superintendent Huffman observes in classrooms this year. Please take a peek. I will continue to use the ELEOT observation tool since a majority of our staff is familiar with it and it allows for me to go back to compare observation walkthroughs prior.

TEI PLAN

Please review the TEI PLAN for the 2023-2024 school year. This document includes the following: A link to the rubric, overview of the indicator timeline (under construction), the observation timeline which includes information on the pre-conference, observation, post conference, and summative evaluation expectations. Please review this thoroughly.

Keep crushing, team! Week 2

From Mrs. C.:

It has come to our attention that students in upper elementary have found a website that encourages "talk to a stranger" called Omegle.  It would be beneficial if you could review online safety especially in 4th & 5th grades.  These types of websites are not available on our FUSD Wi-Fi, however the site was accessed by cell phones on the bus ride home.
If a student needs Mrs. C, please text Jenn at 440-452-5987 or have the student complete the I need to see the Counselor form: https://forms.gle/WN5gwS3YMb46BYdc8
DO NOT SEND students to Mrs. C's room - she is often NOT there!

Zoom beginning to phase out on 9/1/2023

As discussed in last year’s final technology update, the district is phasing out Zoom. Paid Zoom accounts will go away for most employees on 9/1/2023. The district has chosen Microsoft Teams as our new preferred video conferencing platform. Zoom, last year, cost the district $40,000. Teams is available for us to use at no additional cost as it is included in our current Microsoft licensing.

For a guide on using Microsoft Teams, please see the following documentation:

Donor's Choose- NEW POLICY Please talk to me directly prior to applying for Donor's Choose.  You may need to fill out a materials donation form and have it approved by the school board.

Many teachers requested Science/Foss kits supplies from the warehouse.  They are located in the science lab. Please come get them asap so we can prepare the science lab for teaching and indoor recess.

Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship education in grades K-12 is required for FUSD to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and receive E-rate funds. In addition, current academic standards include digital citizenship as an essential curriculum component. In order to better prepare our students for life in a digital world and to meet Federal obligations, all FUSD students must receive at least one lesson related to internet safety/digital citizenship during each school year (starting in SY 2012-13).

Although only one lesson must be taught to meet federal requirements, FUSD strongly encourages digital citizenship instruction throughout the academic year, as it provides an opportunity to set expectations for online behavior and prepares students for college, career, and life.

The FUSD Digital Citizenship Curriculum was revised and updated in the 2022 school year to include Nearpod lessons that are ready to teach. These lessons are located in the curriculum document on the FUSD website, linked below, as well as in the District Library in Nearpod. There is one required lesson at each grade level, 2-3 recommended lessons at each grade level, and an online verification form to be completed by each staff member that teaches the curriculum with students. View the curriculum and the online verification form at: https://www.fusd1.org/internetsafety

All required lessons should be taught, and the verification form should be completed by the teacher no later than December 8th, 2023.

From Mrs. Larsen:

Please check with students that their iPads are active and working properly. Also, if you still have a student without an iPad, please let me know via email.

Any NO SHOW iPads need to be returned to the library as well.
During the Specials schedule, please do not send students to the library with iPads. Thanks!
My tech time is daily at 8:40 to 9:00.  This is the best time to send iPads with issues.
