Professional Development Day

FUSD Professional Development MONDAY @ SMS

7:30am-3:30pm

This is a work day for all employees and there is no school for students. Professional Development Day will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Sinagua Middle School. We would like to encourage members of Team FUSD to come with an open mind and open heart in order to understand, appreciate, work with, and learn from people with cultures and backgrounds different from their own.

Employees should view the Professional Development Day schedule to find their course schedule and locations. Attendance will be recorded in each course. Classified employees will need to clock-in at Sinagua Middle School or complete a timecard at the end of the day to ensure they still meet their budgeted hours for the week. Any classified staff who may be short on their hours can work with their site administrator to make up their hours that week.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PD DAY SCHEDULE

Parking at Sinagua Middle School is limited and carpooling is recommended. There is additional parking at the FUSD District Office and Knoles Elementary School. Please enter Sinagua Middle School through the front entrance and commons area. This is where the welcome and closing ceremonies will take place.

Lunch will be on your own from 11:20 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Employees that bring their lunch are welcome to eat in the commons at Sinagua Middle School.

Further questions may be directed to your site administrator.

December Schedule Changes

Dec. 14 Early Release 12:45pm

       ~ gradebook

Dec. 20 Early Release 12:45pm

Bus Evacuation Drill
It is a mandatory state requirement that our students complete a bus evacuation drill. We have been scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd starting at 9:15. We will call classes down beginning with 4th grade (due to specials). We will finish with Kinder. I am sorry for this disruption.  We will not schedule since we always go much faster than the schedules in the past.  We will be using both bus lanes so listen for the north or south lane announcements. Thank you for your cooperation!

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - OCTOBER 11TH!
October 11th is Walk to School Day! I am working with transportation to see if we can resume the good ol' days where we would drop the Bus students off at the Armory to walk. If so, students will have to have permission slips signed by parents in order to participate. We would also direct parents to drop off at the Armory instead of our drop off zones.  This is a 1/2 day just prior to Fall Break.  I will keep you posted.

Kindergarten Konversations

L: Handing a jacket to Mrs. Burton “I don’t know who’s jacket this is.”
Mrs. Burton: “Kindergarten, who’s jacket is this?”
L: “That’s my jacket!”

Mrs. Housholder:  “Please don’t touch people’s bottoms”
“It’s ok, I told him he can play with my butt.”

Mrs. Burton: “How did you know there was 5 bears?”
I: "Because I subitize! And my mom is sick.”

SHOUT-OUTS  (<-click)

Let's make time to acknowledge our amazing teammates!

Thank you, Char for getting the gym turned over from lunch so quickly. I appreciate you! The floor is so clean and it's ready to go when my classes start.
~ Burgoon

Thank you to our awesome RTI Department and Mr. Whipps for testing ALL our Mustangs and making sure we get them in the group that supports their learning needs! You guys are all amazing! I would also like to thank all the teachers for your continued patience. This was a huge undertaking and I hope all students benefit from this patience and hard work! ~Heather O.

Thank you Krause for taking a friend for me this week and for the bug spray!!!! ~ Ayala

Picture day will take place in the Library on Thursday, September 21st.  Both group and individual photos will fit in this area. We are arranging for the furniture to be moved and risers transported.  Library plan for that Thursday TBD (not canceled).
All staff photo at 8:30am sharp! See schedule below and let us know if there is a conflict.  Thank you.

Voice for Certified and Classified Needed

Dawn Anderson sent out an email looking for each site to have a certified and classified representative for the FUSD Voice committee. If you are interested in serving as Marshall's person for either certified or classified please let me know. Information on these positions can be found in her email.

Reid's Review

RED = Review of Existing Data

MET  = Multi-disciplinary Evaluation Team

I want to send out an email with a brief review of the process I use for scheduling RED and MET meetings. Here goes:
  1. All scheduling is done on the Google calendar.
  2. An open date/time is identified and a hold is placed. ex: "HOLD: XY RED"
  3. Once a hold is placed, guests are added. "Guests" are the required and essential members of the team invited to the meeting.
  4. Invites are sent through Google calendar. If you are on the team, you will get an invite.
  5. *Important: The hold is usually in place for several days, at least, while I seek confirmation from the parent. This is the opportunity to let me know if you have a conflict with the date/time.
  6. Once the meeting is confirmed with the parent, the "hold" is removed from the meeting title. ex: "XY RED"
  7. An update email is sent accompanied by a note in the calendar event. ex: "Parent confirmed 9/15/2023"
  8. Meeting is held at the time specified.
I've been told that the invite looks weird when you get it. I don't know how to change that - sorry - but the essential information is in there. Please be sure to do whatever is best for you in terms of adding it to your schedule - RSVPing to the event, writing on your calendar, placing a sticky on your forehead, etc. (FWIW I have my Outlook Calendar and iCalendar set to communicate with the Google calendar so that when I RSVP, the event shows on all 3 calendars. Yes, I need that level of redundancy.)
I hope this makes sense and is helpful. Please let me know if there are concerns or confusions.

Science Curriculum adoption feedback opportunity!

We must voice our opinions!

Message from Dr. Huffman & S. Wells:

Elementary teachers, administrators, instructional specialists, and support staff,

We are pleased to have you as an integral part of the decision-making process for adopting an elementary science curriculum. The elementary science adoption committee has organized demonstrations with four different companies. We look forward to your participation in the live webinar demonstrations and the valuable feedback you'll provide. Below, you'll find the schedule and links for the presentations.

Thursday, September 14th - 4:30-5:30 pm (National Geographic Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/83678181306  Tuesday, September 19th - 4:15-5:15 pm (Mosa Mack - 4th/5th Grade)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/87092266728 Thursday, September 21st - 4:15-5:15 pm (Discovery Ed/Mystery Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/83611309574 Thursday, September 28th - 4:15-5:15 pm (Amplify Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/81498232419

Link to the feedback form: https://forms.gle/B7fuYgeQBQCFP5r16

If you happen to miss a live session, there's no need to worry; we will provide recordings of the demonstrations. Our aim is to collect feedback from as many of you as possible.

We kindly request that you submit your feedback by October 3rd. This timeline allows the committee to utilize the information in the selection process, narrowing down the list of companies and identifying individuals to pilot the programs during October, November, and December. Our ultimate goal is to finalize the curriculum selection by January.

Please note that Mosa Mack is exclusively available for fourth grade and up. If this curriculum is of interest to all of you, we will also explore options for a science curriculum tailored to grades K-3. Your input and insights are highly valued in this decision-making process.

PLCs Week of Sept. 18

Topic this week:
IDMs
Progress Monitoring begins

Thank you all for your commitment to our collective Professional Learning Communities!

Return of the breakfast smoothies!
Beginning Oct 2nd, we will
serve smoothies 2 days a week! Students LOVE them...and some teachers too ;)

What did you think about the infused water taste testing on Thursday and Friday?
My thoughts:
I am curious if students will be able to use their water bottles, should we continue with it?

I know we are very conscious about our waste management. Be prepared for Marshall students to bring it up.  I love that about them!

And they did!  I am so proud of them.  Food services would love to continue this for our students.  Indeed, they will be allowed to use their water bottles instead of the cups.  We will see how this goes!
