Science Curriculum adoption feedback opportunity!

We must voice our opinions!

Message from Dr. Huffman & S. Wells:

Elementary teachers, administrators, instructional specialists, and support staff,

We are pleased to have you as an integral part of the decision-making process for adopting an elementary science curriculum. The elementary science adoption committee has organized demonstrations with four different companies. We look forward to your participation in the live webinar demonstrations and the valuable feedback you'll provide. Below, you'll find the schedule and links for the presentations.

Thursday, September 14th - 4:30-5:30 pm (National Geographic Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/83678181306  Tuesday, September 19th - 4:15-5:15 pm (Mosa Mack - 4th/5th Grade)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/87092266728 Thursday, September 21st - 4:15-5:15 pm (Discovery Ed/Mystery Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/83611309574 Thursday, September 28th - 4:15-5:15 pm (Amplify Science)https://fusd1-org.zoom.us/j/81498232419

Link to the feedback form: https://forms.gle/B7fuYgeQBQCFP5r16

If you happen to miss a live session, there's no need to worry; we will provide recordings of the demonstrations. Our aim is to collect feedback from as many of you as possible.

We kindly request that you submit your feedback by October 3rd. This timeline allows the committee to utilize the information in the selection process, narrowing down the list of companies and identifying individuals to pilot the programs during October, November, and December. Our ultimate goal is to finalize the curriculum selection by January.

Please note that Mosa Mack is exclusively available for fourth grade and up. If this curriculum is of interest to all of you, we will also explore options for a science curriculum tailored to grades K-3. Your input and insights are highly valued in this decision-making process.

Voice for Certified and Classified Needed

Dawn Anderson sent out an email looking for each site to have a certified and classified representative for the FUSD Voice committee. If you are interested in serving as Marshall's person for either certified or classified please let me know. Information on these positions can be found in her email.

This is just a reminder about two state mandates for September. The first is that we must dedicate a part of our day on September 11th (or the nearest weekday if 9/11 falls on a weekend) to teaching about the attacks. The second is that September 25th is Sandra Day O'Connor Civics Day. On this day (or the nearest weekday if it's a weekend), the majority of the day should be dedicated to civics education.
Below are resources to teach these topics.

Walk your student to class Fridays
Families and our front office are having a hard time with every other Friday walk your student to class day.  After much consideration, we are going to allow all families to walk in on all Fridays.  If you need your prep that morning, simply put a note on the door that states "Please meet me on the playground".  I value your prep time and I value the community our families desire to be a part of.  As it is, most families are walking straight to the playground and not visiting the classrooms.  This compromise is very important to a few of our families.  Thank you for your cooperation

Let's make time to acknowledge our amazing teammates!

Thank you Ms. Shaw, Ms. Thompson, Mrs. Waltner, and Mrs. Jones for your help with plans, teaching, and coverage when I was gone! You are appreciated! ~ Ms. Johnson

Thank you, Teacher Jacquie, for helping me with my sticky trap mess. It was a sticky situation 🤣 Thank you, Ms. Woody, for all your hard work and patience with me as we figure out schedules and efficiency. I’m so appreciative of my team (support staff included)! ~ Mrs. Krause

Thank you, Peggy Murray for your constant calm and for helping with ALL the things ALL THE TIME!! You are priceless. ~ Ms. Shaw

Thank you, Erin and Jen for covering my class for half an hour so I could go to an appointment. ~ Ms. Shaw

Thank you, Yvette Larsen - appreciate your efforts. ~ Ms. Shaw

Thank you all for your inquiries re: Mr. Billy.  I know you have been worried and out of respect for his privacy and lack of concrete answers, I have been unable to share much.  Well I can officially share with you that Mr. Billy hopes to get back here very soon!  He has HATED missing crossing guard as this job is his lifeline!  Mr. Billy has been battling a bad infection and is getting stronger every day.  I will not allow him to come back until his energy is restored.  You all know he pushes too hard.  Please let your students know he is gaining strength and can't wait to be here. If your students wish to write cards, I know it would mean the world to him.  You and they mean the world to him.  Thank you all for your love and support!  Mr. Billy will "be back like a bad dream"!

Thank you all for your participation in the assembly. Remember: please do not spend money on supplies for student costumes for your class. Get creative with how you can use what we have to contribute to your theme. Costume planning shouldn't cost staff or families any money. Thanks!

Gradebook Collaboration is available to you!

FUSD will be offering Grade Level Collaborations again this year. These sessions are designed for collaboration time among team members to discuss and normalize standards grades, ensure all FUSD elementary grading practices are being followed, and be certain that teacher grade books are properly set up for consistency (with standards imported and visibility is accessible in Parent VUE and Student VUE). The first session is scheduled for Monday, October 2 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Marshall and is also Classroom Site Fund eligible. Sign up in Frontline.

High Quality Instruction
Culture of Feedback - Let's get this started!

You are all rocking your routines, expectations, and schedules!  Now that we are settled into our rhythm, I want to be more purposeful with time in your classrooms!

Beginning next week, I will be visiting many classrooms for about 15-20 min.  I am NOT there to judge, I am curious and excited! I (sometimes we - Overton and Ramirez) will be providing feedback via the ELEOT observation tool since a majority of our staff is familiar with it and it allows for me to go back to compare observation walkthroughs prior. It also allows for me to to leave comments.  There is no expectation to prepare anything on your end.  I hope you will find the collected evidence and feedback helpful and insightful. I would love to schedule a few brief feedback meetings as well.  These are NOT scheduled but your formal evaluations are and that schedule is below in the TEI plan.

Indicators of High Quality Instruction

Here is one of the observational tools that will be used when Superintendent Huffman observes in classrooms this year. Please take a peek. I will continue to use the ELEOT observation tool since a majority of our staff is familiar with it and it allows for me to go back to compare observation walkthroughs prior.

TEI PLAN

Please review the TEI PLAN for the 2023-2024 school year. This document includes the following: A link to the rubric, overview of the indicator timeline (under construction), the observation timeline which includes information on the pre-conference, observation, post conference, and summative evaluation expectations. Please review this thoroughly.

Check out our Facebook posts!  Thank you, Mrs. Waltner for capturing moments!

Congratulations Ms. Emmy and Ms. Mears!  Money, Money, Money!!!
