Spotlight on Mrs. Chelsea Hansen 3rd grade
Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea Hansen and I am the new 3rd grade teacher. I am so excited to be at Marshall. I have already gotten to see some amazing things here so I can't wait to get the true feel of the Mustang family when we are all back together.
I was born in raised right here in Flagstaff. I graduated from Flag High and then went down to the University of Arizona to get my degree in Elementary Education. After that, my husband and I moved back to Flagstaff to begin our careers. Since moving back, I worked at Killip Elementary for 6 years as a 4th grade teacher and Instructional Specialist. I also went back to school to get my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have a 3 year old son named Brantley who constantly keeps us on our toes! We also have two dogs, Dex and Callie. In my spare time I enjoy camping with my family as well as creating custom shirts and signs.
I can't wait to experience even more of what Marshall has to offer!

Headphones- We received a donation of 32-ish headphones. We will keep some for raffle prizes. If you have students in your class that would benefit from having a pair of headphones in the home, please come grab one or let us know in the front office and we will set them aside for families to pick up.
Housekeeping (important to dos)
We have three mandatory trainings we must sign off on. Since we are not gathering in person, you are expected to view these resources (EPI pens, Blood Borne Pathogens and Mandated Reporting) and "sign off" on the trainings. Please have them done by Oct. 2nd. Thank you.

Board Meeting Overview
- Hybrid Models were not favored by staff nor families through survey results
- FUSD Governing Board requested a phase in model beginning with PreK-1 or K-2 while we are in moderate level.
- Social media is not the place to win arguments/change minds.
- The comment section was brutal. Please remember that you are amazing!
Reset and JET!
Our board had a tough, long meeting and they need our support in moving forward for the benefit of our community. Our hope is that we can provide them with a more unified plan and that they can swiftly approve it so we can begin working on the details. I'm wishing them all the best and sending my good thoughts their way!
Next Steps for FUSD - united
- Negotiations recommended to use Coconino County FUSD Data for Decisions
- There are now 2 Committees: Phase-In Planning and Group C (Remote Student) Planning. How can you be involved in Safely Moving Forward Planning? Email me with your interest. Meetings are next week.
- A common survey will be created by reps from cert, classified, admin
- Hybrid as long term instructional model is no longer on the books (or is it???) . It is possible we are now looking at hybrid when we have to quarantine a classroom. I am looking forward to additional clarification.
- Friday, October 2nd – Specials teachers should prepare grades
- Friday, October 9th – End of Quarter 1. Attendance Rollover and Specials grades by 12 noon
- October 12-14 – Parent/Teacher Conferences – Standards Reports should be present at conference. Use Doodle Poll to get your parents to sign up. It's free and it's easy! It will save you time. Here is a how to do it in less than 3 min. video.
Building Preparations it's really not THAT bad...
School wide we will:
- Take down all boarders, all bulletin boards
- Put up additional signs on all entry point doors and high touch areas.
- Put out sanitizing hand wipes in high touch areas.
- Mark hallways and common areas with directions, arrows, and social distancing dots (as needed)
- Set up an isolation room
- Cover all bookcases with plastic. We will get plastic if you need it. Arrival time of plastic is unknown. Get your's at the dollar store (shower curtain style, picnic table style, whatever you wish - no cloth, plastic).
- Take down all stuffed animals, plants and flowers (fake), quilts, extra rugs, curtains, pillows, snowflakes or leaves from ceiling, paper on doors, paper poofs/stars/lanterns, fabric on the top of crate seats and tire seats, t-shirts on display, cloth chairs other than desk chairs, and door wreathes.
- Please cover or remove papers in pocket charts as they will get ruined (curled) because of the spray they will be using. Also, we cannot have any stacked paper on shelves. Please put them in a drawer or in a plastic bin.
- Photos on bulletin board in your rooms will need to be covered in plastic or taken down as well.
- Protect your belongings.
- Maximize room for students.
- Ventilation- The district is having an outside contractor ( Pueblo HVAC) evaluate our schools' ventilation systems. Please ensure that you do not have any materials on top of the vents or cover the vents as the systems will not work as effectively. Thank you.
Personal Cleaning supplies- Not allowed. Not even organic awesomeness. Please do not bring in any products with bleach (Clorox wipes are OK) as many of our cleaning supplies have ammonia. Bleach and ammonia do not work well together.
Fire Marshal is new again!
- Please do not have anything 18" from the ceiling (hanging or stacked on cabinets)
- No paper on doors.
- Remove floor or desk lamps with open lightbulbs
- Please remove any "Christmas" or "twinkle" lights or LED lights (mine were fine last year...no longer)
- Do not plug extension cords into other extension cords
Covid Documents are here and ready to be prepared for you early next week. We will let you know when they are ready. What can you expect to receive? Flowcharts of the following:

Door Hangars! They took our system, flipped it ;) and are using it! We are now green and red only.
Green is clean! Please turn to red when you leave at the end of the day. When you arrive at work next, it will be green showing that it is clean. Easy peasy!
