February is Black History Month. Please share your innovative lessons.
We have been learning more about Black history since MLK day, starting with MLK and Ruby Bridges and learning about segregation in schools and other facilities. We are starting to learn about modern figures in Black history too and learned about Star Wars actor John Boyega this morning. About half my class is obsessed with Star Wars and the other half tolerate us 🙂
I talked about Boyega's Star Wars role then we had a discussion about modern activists and how racial inequality still exists today. I recorded that part of the lesson and I was so proud of how much the kids are comprehending and recalling these big concepts. At the end the kids really focused on Star Wars rather than his activism which I think is totally fine, in the middle of the lesson is really where the meat of their observations and discussion are in the video (about 1 minute in until about 12 minutes in). They also have their writing projects...coming soon!

From Peggy Murray:
Please forward any Marshall Family Student Names for the fabulous Operation School Bell Clothing Program! I need them ASAP! We are having great luck providing families with these clothing bags upon your referrals! I personally hand them out each month and this program gives me an opportunity to say Hi! How is your family doing? which is important during this pandemic! Also, let me know if there are any other families that may need support in other areas! I so appreciate your time and energy to keep us somewhat connected to Marshall Families!
Also, Parenting AZ Free Teen Parenting class beings on Wed. Info on our web and facebook pages.
