Here we go!!! 2021/22!

Wow, what an amazing start to the school year! District-wide we are understaffed in custodians, maintenance workers, bus drivers, teachers, front office staff, and paras.  Despite all of that, we all pitched in and made Marshall's first week happen!  Students are so happy to be back in person and we have received such positive comments from parents and district staff.  We are pivoting everyday as we review what is working and what needs adjustments.  It seems every time we create the plan, the rules change and we need to redesign.  We are all becoming so flexible, so nimble.  When we work together and support each other we can rise above any challenge.  Thank you for having an active part in our collective success!  Thank you for your creative, problem solving solutions.  Thank you for putting relationships first!  Together, we rise!

Dawn and I were so happy we had the opportunity to visit your school today and just wanted to give you, your team and your students a huge shout out for a great first day!!!
It was so awesome to see your students with masks on, your staff modeling positive behaviors, your building was so prepared and just the amazing relationships that were starting to be formed.  We appreciate all you do for students! Great job!!  Keep up all the awesome work you are doing!

I want to thank all of you for one, helping me on my first day teaching kindergarten!  Also, thank you so much for knowing about my sweet student and helping out. Many checked in throughout the day with me and Steph, helped when we couldn't get him off the playground and just stopping in to say that he and us are loved and supported!  I am beyond thankful to all of you and to be a part of Marshall School as a full time teacher now!

FROM MARY KAY:

As many of you are aware of the recent passage of A.R.S.15-717.02 Prohibited Instruction, there are still many unanswered questions about what can I teach?  I have been in contact with Linda Burrows and Tammy Waller from ADE regarding guidance and they are currently preparing a training for teachers, “Can I Teach This?” for all content areas in grades K – 12 which is scheduled for Thursday, September 16th at 3:30-5:00.  The link to register for this training is:  https://ems.azed.gov/home/calendar?sd=8825

In the meantime additional guidance to this bill has been offered and can be found at the following link:

 https://www.azed.gov/sites/default/files/2021/07/Teacher%20Guidance%20for%20ARS%2015-717.02%20-%207.22.21%20.pdf

The last couple of pages offer some very good tips for instructors and I encourage you to review this document.

From Jane Gaun:
  1. Good news, classes have been rostered and students can begin using DreamBox.
  2. This year all FUSD K-5 teachers and administrators have access to DreamBox University, on demand PD.

How should students sign-on to DreamBox?

Students will access DreamBox through the Clever app on their iPad.  This is a single-sign on portal which will eventually house several web applications. The tech department has created this video to explain how you and your students use Clever as your sign-on.  Teachers can also access Clever on their laptops using this url: https://clever.com/in/fusd1

How can you learn more about DreamBox through DreamBox University?

This year all FUSD K-5 teachers and administrators can have access to DreamBox University! There are limited licenses, therefore this is not available for our paraprofessionals.

At DreamBox University, you will find short modules for learning the basics for implementing DreamBox with your students or more advanced topics like using data to form small groups or how to create short- and long-term assignments.

If you complete these off-contract time, these can be used to earn 301 or Salary Advancement Hours.  This credit can only be awarded by the hour, not for 15 or 30 minutes so plan to complete more than one module. You can complete the modules at different times.

It is suggested that you begin by completing this set of 4 fifteen-minute modules first.

To access DreamBox University for the first-time, use this link and sign-up.  You are creating a new account for this site.

You will need to enter this Access Code: pddr0526

The goal is to have students complete at least 5 lessons per week.
It is best if they work for at least 20 minutes at a time.
This could be accomplished in 3-4 scheduled time periods per week.
Although students could work on this at home, parents often help and this messes with the DreamBox algorithms which collects time and every key stroke to provide the next prompt for the students.  Overhelping pushes kids too fast and then they get frustrated,

*Some lessons may take up to 25–30 minutes

Predictive Insights, which predicts performance on state level testing only works if students complete at least 12 lessons over the previous 6 weeks.  This prediction is updated the first of every month.

COVID UPDATES

The FUSD Governing Board passed the 2021-2022 school year mitigation plan on July 13, 2021. I encourage you to read through it to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of classroom and school-wide expectations for students and staff.

The district shared a Covid Cheat Sheet with us which may be helpful if/when we have a positive case and need to begin quarantining students.
