Giving back...The United Way!

This blog contains TWO WEEKS of information!

Have you checked out Marshall's Facebook page lately?
Head over to see some pics from this week.

The Quarantine Blues

For many teachers, students, and their guardians, having to quarantine is not only very difficult, it brings back some serious feelings of when school was shut down. PTSD has been referenced by many!  It is important that we remain mindful of that.  Parents and students can become frustrated with the notification to quarantine.  Please don't hesitate to direct them to myself or Nurse Liz.  We've got you!  On a much kinder note,  Mr. McAllister's class wanted their classmates to know they were thought of and missed!  They remained a part of the learning community through Canvas!  #MarshallElevatED!!

The Flagstaff Unified School District’s workplace campaign began on November 15, and lasts through December 3.

Last year, Team FUSD raised just over $5200 for the United Way of Northern Arizona.  Mr. Penca would like to challenge us this year to increase our donation goal by 25% to $6600.  If we meet our collective goal, he would like to personally fund outdoor movie nights (with popcorn!) for all Team FUSD employees and your families in the spring.

All you have to do is CLICK HERE to pledge your support. It takes 10 seconds! Donating options include payroll deduction (beginning on the 2nd pay period in January 2022), credit/debit card, or bill later.

Your individual support would help:

    > Provide food for children and families in need.    > Assist with the sharp rise in demand for homeless services.    > Support school readiness for children with KinderCamp and by providing free books.

So please join me in making a difference and Step up for our Community.

It's Survey Season!  Please check your email from Monday, Nov. 15 for your own personal link to FUSD's teacher survey.  The email comes from Panorama Education w/ subject: Request for Feedback - Teacher Feedback on SEL.  Your Feedback does matter!  Take time to make your voice heard!!

What our families are still saying...
"Attitude of gratitude".  You are so appreciated!

There are so many things to be grateful for at Marshall! I love the teachers, the families, all the folks in the office. There is truly a sense of community at Marshall that I am so grateful to be part of! Keep up the amazing work! ~ Emma Wharton

I am grateful for the safety measurement the school is taking to protect our kids from Covid.
~ Susanne Ludwig
Thank you everyone at Marshall for your dedication, kindness and patience you’ve shown during the last couple of years. It’s been an incredibly challenging time for everyone, and all of the Marshall families benefited immensely from the hard work and help received from ever teacher and staff member. Our family is grateful to be a part of the Marshall Elementary and greater Flagstaff community. Thank you. ~ Emilia Anderson
Where to start? You all are the best. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication that Marshall staff and teachers show every day. In particular, our kids have been lucky to have Ms.Housholder and Ms. Mijares. ~ Anonymous

Spotlight on Amber Swain

Hi! My name is Amber Swain and I am the new Speech-Language Pathologist for kindergarten through third grade this year. I first received my degree in Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University and taught kindergarten in Phoenix for two years. I then moved to Flagstaff and earned my Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I started my career working for Navajo County and travelling to Joseph City and the Hopi Reservation. I did this for four years and then decided I would prefer to work closer to home. I was the SLP at Killip for the last four years before transferring to Marshall.
I have been married to my husband Dave for the last 2 ½ years. He is a real estate agent here in Flagstaff. We have an 11-year-old black lab named Kettle who thinks she is still 3. We absolutely adore her! My husband and I love to cook and host family and friends for meals. My favorite thing to do is bake, so definitely expect some delicious Christmas cookies coming soon!
I have enjoyed getting to know all of you so far this school year!

Digital Citizenship from H. Zeigler
Just a reminder that, per federal regulation, all FUSD students must be taught at least one digital citizenship lesson annually. The FUSD Digital Citizenship curriculum web page includes one required lesson at each grade level, 2-3 recommended lessons at each grade level, and a new online verification form to be completed by each staff member that teaches the curriculum with students. View the new curriculum, details of the revision work, and the online verification form at: https://www.fusd1.org/internetsafety  The goal was to have all required lessons taught and the verification form completed, by the teacher, no later than December 3rd, 2021.
